The Hatching House Flocks

Fifty Five Flowery Hens were the first breed invented by Swedish Monk Silverudd. The hens are truly prolific layers! They lay a large, round, white egg that runs between XL to Jumbo. They are relatively small eaters and are very self aware. As a day-old chick the males are easy to distinguish by the blonde down on the backs of their heads, and as adults the males are largely white while the females are decorated with a beautiful spotted pattern; the ‘flowers’ that contribute to the breed name.

Chocolate Mottled Orpingtons are truly special. The Orpington is a British breed of chicken. It was bred in the late nineteenth century by William Cook of Orpington, Kent in south-east England. Our Chocolate Mottled Orpingtons originated from UK imported stock. Some of those old birds still live on the farm today! The UK style Orpington is a bit different than the typical American bred Orpington. They are larger, fluffier and a bit more mellow. Our goal is to work towards the APA standard. This particular color is in a rich, Hershey colored chocolate with white flowers similar to a Speckled Sussex.

The Indonesian chicken breed known as Ayam Cemani is the ALL BLACK chicken you hear so much about! Their feathers are black. Their skin is black. Cut open an Ayam Cemani and you’ll find black muscle anchored to black bones. Even their organs are black. Our breeding flock has carefully been selected for their BLACK qualities since we started breeding them in 2015! No member of our flock has leakage in their feathers, pink toes, pink mouths or mulberry in their wattles. We cannot guarantee the distribution of black pigment in offspring but we do not sell chicks that we would not grow out for ourselves!
